The Simple Approach
One way to approach leveling your lockpicking skill is doing every quest that involves killing humanoids that you can pickpocket from.
Simply use every opportunity to pickpocket lockboxes from your targets and pick them to increase your skill. You can also get some rogue poisons this way.
The More Detailed Way
First of all, my rogue lockpicking leveling guide will show you how to level your skill from lv. 1-170.
Alliance rogues should start in Alther’s Mill in the Redridge Mountains – the practice lockboxes respawn very quickly. Then proceed with the rogues’s poison quest which you can pick up at level 20. The lock can be picked even after the quest is completed, but note that the poison “Touch of Zanzil” is applied every time you pick the lock. You can easily get level 170 this way.
Horde Rogues should start to practice picking the locks on the ship off the Merchant Coast south of Ratchet. When they get to level 20, Horde rogues can also level their skill with the poison quest.
Your next step in my rogue lockpicking leveling guide is to get from level 150-225.
Two paths are available. One option is to pick Waterlogged and Mossy Footlockers in Desolace. You can find them off the NW shore around 37, 21 and around 36, 11. Don’t forget to get enough water breathing potions!
The next option is to lockpick Battered and Dented Footlockers in the Angor Fortress in the Badlands.
If you are not at level 225 by now, sneak into the Sacrlet Monastery and pickpocket the first 3 mobs you encounter. Sneak out again and reset the dungeon timer. Once you reach level 225 head to the Searing Gorge, down the Slag Pit and lockpick the Dented Footlockers.
To get from level 250-255, dive around the Sunken Temple in the Swamp of Sorrows and get all the Mossy Footlockers.
The next step in this rogue lockpicking leveling guide – get from 250-300. A good way to do it is to circle Tyrs Hand and pickpocket the mobs for Scarlet Footlockers. There are other options as well, but this one should do the job for you.
Now, from 300-375 I recommend you to go to the Feralfen Village in Zangarmarsh (south of Coilfang Reservoir). There are 3 areas of buildings with more than enough chests. Don’t forget to pickpocket the mobs for Strong Junkboxes!
You can also visit the Black Temple: Pickpocket the Warrior/Paladin Blood Elves outside the Temple for Strong Junkboxes.
To get from level 350-400, I suggest you make it a habit to pickpocket each and every humanoid target before you kill them. This way you will get enough Reinforced Junkboxes to max your lockpicking skill.
