Don’t Join Groups
First question is: How do you level faster? On your own or in a group with your friends? The answer is simple: Right now the majority off all quests can be solved on your own and only a few quests actually need you to group up. But these quests take too much time to do them anyway.
Cataclysm will change this as Blizzard wants to support groups in the early game. But right now my rogue power leveling guide recommends you to level on your own.
Don’t Visit Instances
Doing quests and killing mobs in an instance gives more exp than regular quests/mobs. But don’t be fooled – you have to invest a lot more time as well. When it comes to xp/hour, most instances aren’t worth your time. They are fun when visited with friends, but when it comes to power leveling, instances waste your time.
Questing > Grinding
For a long time grinding was the way to power level your character, but these days are gone. Blizzard has changed the game mechanics because they want the players to level up by questing. If you seriously want to grind, then grind quests and quest mobs!
Swords > Daggers
I highly recommend the Combat Leveling Spec! Use swords instead of daggers – you are not on the battleground, you are killing quest mobs. Sneaking up on the target and use any kind of Subtlety or Assassination spec slows you down.

Use An Ingame Leveling Guide
If you haven’t heard of ingame leveling guides, it’s about time. If you are serious about power leveling your rogue, you don’t want to rely on a text-guide and alt-tab back and forth. The only way to get the maximum xp/hour is to follow the perfect questing path given by a leveling add-on.
If you miss this, you will waste a lot of time doing junk-quests that give you little xp/hour and you will run in circles and do quests in a very ineffective manner.
